This is my first experience living abroad. I had never been certain whether I would undertake
a full year exchange program, but here I am.
Moving to Switzerland to continue my hospitality studies has been one of the most exciting
and challenging experiences of my life. The first small challenge I faced was the meal timing,
was another world compare to Spain, I said small because after one week I was completely
adpated at it. The second challenge, was to lose the fear about speaking in another language
from the very beginnig. I have to say was pretty easy as the new friends were super nice and
also was a way to learn and improve the language together.
One of the things I have enjoyed the most about attending classes is that professors always
aim to make the lessons more practical, dividing the class into small groups to discuss,
analyze and research different topics. For me, sharing knowledge, exchanging diverse
perspectives and collaborating with classmates is extremely advantageous. Furthermore, in
my personal experience, I have noticed a significant improvement in my English since all the
lessons are imparted in this language. This allowed me to progress much faster than I ever
thought possible and I highlight this as it held a high importance for me.
Beyond the classroom, another aspect that has greatly enriched my experience is living in a
student residence. Though it has its downsides, it has given me unforgettable moments with
other exchange students. Every day, I have had the chance to build strong, lasting friendships
while sharing experiences, cultures, and daily life together.
After this great adventure I am going through, I highly recommend living abroad alone, for an
extended period if there is the possibility as it is another way to grow and learn, not only from
others but also about yourself. Whether through customs, traditions or personal experiences
the cultural exchange that happens within a group of international friends is priceless.
Switzerland has given me countless opportunities, from forging new friendships with people
from all over the world to enjoying breathtaking outdoor activities, discovering fascinating
places, and learning about the country’s rich regional diversity.
I am so proud of the change I have felt in myself from my first months here until now. I have
gained more confidence and security to embrace the new opportunities and challenges life
may bring my way. I am incredibly grateful for this amazing experience, which has significantly
contribuited to my personal and professional development.
Chur and Konvikt will be always in my heart.
